We are blessed in New Life with a large number of highly motivated people who have crossed the ‘dateline’ and are now in their 60’s or beyond. Our endeavour is to extend as many opportunities as possible for them to be able to lead fulfilling and rewarding lives as they discover numerous options for contributing to the life of the whole body. There are virtually no areas where their wisdom and experience is not able to be a benefit to often younger and inexperienced people around whom they are able to impart support and encouragement. Their willingness to serve in a wide spectrum of activities adds a considerable breadth to the life of the church, and communicates a loud message against ‘ageism’.

Once a month – last Wednesday afternoon in the month – we facilitate an Evergreen Congregation, which enables those within this age group to enjoy a hot meal together, followed by the opportunity to sing, pray and enjoy some devotional input one with another. From time to time we organise various events outside of church buildings where there are opportunities to bring along friends and acquaintances in order to be able to build bridges with those who have not yet become part of this Evergreen group. We are also involved in taking a Christian service in several Old People’s Nursing Homes, where the occupants are unable to travel to a church of their choice, so we seek to relate with them in a meaningful way in their own environment.
