Newlife students is the student expression of New Life Lincoln and runs through the academic year from September - May. We are the student community of New Life who aim to grow together and inspire each other to live courageously as Christians throughout our time at university from freshers week all the way through to graduation and beyond. We love getting together and just hanging out. We have connect groups on a weekly basis and big celebration evenings once a month. We also get together every Sunday after church for ‘social’ stuff like pub lunches and barbecues, and have more exciting events throughout the year.
Students, often in the early years of our faith, we encourage each other to take ownership of our own journeys with God. Connect groups are where we openly discuss that journey of growth and what it means to be a Christian at university. We read the bible together, pray together and go through faith building connect notes together.
Connect groups are a great opportunity for us as students to build friendships and personally come to know more of God. They happen on a weekly basis around the city.
A great way for us as students to make the most of our time at university, is to learn from those who have already gone through the challenges and excitement we’re going through. Discipleship is simply that: Meeting up with someone further ahead in the faith than you who wants to invest time, care and wisdom into your life to encourage you in all areas of life.
Once a month we come together as a community for a celebration evening. This evening has one overall aim: to encounter, to seek and to celebrate the outstanding greatness of God. This evening is a great encouragement for us as students, as seeing God in our day to day lives can often be difficult or even close to impossible. It is a chance to be reminded that God seeks to pour extraordinary grace and power into our very ordinary student lives and express our desire to know God more through worship and great teaching. We can than spend the night hanging out in the Courtyard with coffee’s and hot chocolate.
Every Sunday after church we get together and have a generally great time. Sometimes we eat together, go to a pub, catch a movie etc… We use it to get to know each other better and relax after a long week of lectures
At varying times in the year we have our Bonfire party, Lads and Lasses nights, Debate Nights, Prayer Nights, Club Mission, Movie Nights, Welcome Meals and Adopt a Student Sundays. Our major social events in the year are our Christmas Party – Not to be missed, it is our chance to get festive, a night filled with big laughs, big food and a big Christmas quiz. The Weekend Away – Every year we go somewhere beautiful, in order to escape the business of life and have a weekend full of fun and refelction, passionate worship, great teaching and ultimately to meet with God. It is always a brilliant life-changing time for us.
And finally our End of Year Party – As the accumulation of the year’s social events, it is always dangerously epic. Time to get yourselves all glammed up, for a night with Great music, fantastic food, cool prizes and lots of dancing.
